March 2 is Read Across America Day, a day to celebrate our favorite activity. The day was established by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998 to help get kids excited about reading. The day occurs each year on the birthday of beloved children’s book author Dr. Seuss (Mar 2, 1904 – Sep 24, 1991). A lesser-known fact about Dr. Seuss is that he created the word nerd.
A perfect way to celebrate is to read one his famous tales, like Cat in the Hat or make up your own silly rhyme like I did using the antics of my jester, Kylo. “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”- Dr. Seuss

Sometimes a straw is only a straw and sometimes it’s an entertaining cat toy.
Sometimes authors are like cats. We look for different ways to write and different tools to help our process. Something as simple as a new version of Word reading what I wrote out loud helps me catch mistakes. ❓What has been your straw to use differently? What does hurkle-durkle mean? If you search your internet browser, the word hurkle-durkle is a real word. Some social media influencer made it popular. The 3 Fuzzy Solos do it all the time and if they're doing it on me, I'm stuck and have to do it too, but only on a weekend. I secretly wish I was either a spoiled cat or every day was Saturday. Okay, I only need a way to pay bills and get in shape while I hurkle-durkle. My only idea for accomplishing that is to get a clone. Know where I can find one? According to the Scotsman: While it has fallen out of use, to hurkle-durkle is "to lie in bed or lounge about when one should be up and about". It is closely tied with the word hurkle, which means to hunker - or sit huddled - in a crouched position for warmth, which makes hurkle-durkle the perfect word for the cold winter months. RealSimple says: Hurkle-durkle means to lounge in bed past the point when it's time to get up. Originating in Scotland, the earliest reference is from an 1808 version of An Etymological Dictionary of the Scottish Language The 3 Fuzzy Solos started a YouTube channel and you can find their videos on there now too.
My 3 Fuzzy Solos are shy around strangers. Therefore, they’re just like their Mommy, a weird, socially awkward introvert who is more comfortable with books. I love them. Saying I tolerate them isn’t even close to true (see Instagram reel). I’m sure many only tolerate me, but I can’t imagine a life without my fur babies.
Kylo, what do you dream about? Kylo has mastered the deer-in-headlights look while scheming what shenanigans to participate in and then he proceeds faster than you can blink to . . . 1. Attack siblings or parents 2. Knock something off a flat surface 3. Dip toys or paws into drinking fountain 4. Run around in tornado mode. (He has huge FOMO and won’t miss out on any fun unless he’s exhausted.) 5. Jump on top of Mommy's back and be carried around like a Pharaoh. Kylo (AKA Ky, Ky or toddler ) plays hard, loves ferociously, and sleeps deeply. 💜 His dreams have to be an exaggerated version of his daily life with the help of AI much like my fantasy stories and fairy tales. Han (AKA Hanie Bear, AKA Prince of Siam) dreams of his favorite things: jumping, jumping to catch balls, flying through the air, parkour, more jumping, jump pets, being a prince or Han Solo, and cuddles with Mommy. He’s a huge cuddle buddy. Thanks to AI, I can capture his dreams. My dreams rarely make sense but they give me ideas for my books. Childhood nightmares went into my secret project. What do you think Leia dreams about? Do you wonder what your pet dreams about? If she’s an author’s pet, she has a GINORMOUS imagination. I tell her about my stories, and of course, she listens in rapture. Since Leia leaps tall furniture in a single bound in real life, I have no doubt she dreams of high adventure shenanigans. She’s an acrobatic, spy, space warrior, superhero, princess, book dragon. With the help of AI, I was able to capture her imaginary dream images. Leia is Daddy's girl.
Before we married 27 years ago, my husband was a dog person. We’ve had six cats since then. We adopted Leia, Han, and Kylo in August 2021 after a sad goodbye to Hobbes. They’re all sweet to both of us, but the boys always sleep with me, and Leia is her Daddy’s princess, who can do no wrong. She gives me some time and sweetness, but she’s wormed her way into his tough persona. He still likes dogs, but the 3 Fuzzy Solos provided much needed therapy and healing ❤️🩹when he had some challenges last year. They’re more than cats, they’re our children. Happy New Year & Wisdom
"Time spent with cats is never wasted.” – Sigmund Freud Sung to the tune of Auld Lang Syne: I had the day to get stuff done but somewhere down the line The stuff’s not done I wonder why Your guess is as good as mine As 2023 is nearly over and 2024 is chomping at the bit to arrive, I can look back at all the things I accomplished and the ones I didn't. Sometimes you have to stop and pet the cat (or play, or feed, or provide a lap), because you don't have the ones you love in your life forever. Hopefully you'll have the memories of time spent together, but memories can't replace a warm touch. This applies to furry family members or humans. If the house wasn't always clean, or that project didn't get finished, but your family felt your love, then I'd say your 2023 was successful. You always have next year to clean the house, do projects, and procrastinate. Happy New Year! 🎄Merry Christmas from the 3 Fuzzy Solos 🎄
