Several years ago my husband took me sailing on Valentine's Day when we were in Maui. I had always dreamed of going sailing. All the songs made it sound relaxing, romantic, and euphoric. To date myself, the song by Christopher Cross called Sailing was one of my favorites. I would listen to it over and over again picturing myself on a sail boat. I was a pre-teen so it is obvious I'm not in my twenties now.
On my desk at work I have this photo of my sailing excursion to remind me of that stress free moment. It keeps me focused when work gets to be a little overwhelming. I also have it there to show me dreams sometimes come true.
As a writer the dream has always been to get published, but the journey can't be accomplished by a generous husband who makes it happen. To simplify it: First I have all the stories swirling around in my head, second I put the stories down on paper, and third I get my book edited over and over again. This all takes loads of time and money. Since I spend most of my life in an office, time to write is minimal. Then there is the getting the book published and marketing it to readers which also takes a chunk of time and money.
I will continue to dream of sailing onto the best sellers' list in hopes that someday I can make writing my full time job.
